Psychocorrection

The long-time drugs intoxication results in development of addiction, the neurophysiological mechanism of which is based in the stem and limbic brain structures, in those areas where the so-called “system of emotional reinforcement” is located. One of the most essential pharmacological effects of drugs, ethanol, nicotine, as well as of all the other psychoactive substances that cause addiction is their positively-supporting action. This action implies appearance of pleasant feelings after introduction of the substance. Their quality and exposition may vary in dependence on the nature and dose of the drug abuse of chemical substances and creation of addiction, actually, depends on availability of positively-supporting properties in them. The positive reinforcement is observed not only at introduction of psychoactive substances. It is known that satisfaction of any motivation brings to formation of pleasant emotional states. It is believed at present that drugs affect the mechanisms in the body that are related to the «normal» positive reinforcement, occurring at satisfaction of biological and social motivations. Thus, there are certain neuroanatomic, neurophysiological and neurochemical structures in any healthy body that provide the origin of positive reinforcement. These structures are united into the «central system of positive reinforcement».

Medical and biological researches carried out in narcology, evidence the systemic disorders that lie in the basis of impairment of thinking, motivation, addictive disorders. At present, we can speak of and must speak of alcoholism and drug addiction as of extremely severe diseases, determined as a pathological urge for alcohol and drugs, development of the dysfunctional state in case of stopping using them, and in far gone cases – as a psychical degradation and persistent somatoneurological disorders that have a certain biological basis.

Importance of studying the drug affect on the higher cortical functions is also caused by the fact that under modern life conditions a high level of attention, quick decision-making, intensive enough processing of a large stream of information are continuously required from a person. At the same time, it is well known, that alcohol, drugs and other surface-active substances act mainly on these functions in the first place. The most available and widely used indicator of the processes taking place in the man’s central nervous system is the electrical activity of the various brain structures. It became possible to study the brain pathology directly owing to the computed tomography method determining the pathological changes in the brain structure.

At present, the unique method that allows to find functional and structural changes noninvasively in the person’s central nervous system caused by different intoxications is a complex method of registering the stem caused potentials (psychodiagnostics «PST-D») together with determination of the somatic state of the patient by using «Mimex^®»-technology. It is one of the most up-to-date electrophysiological methods applied in the clinical neurophysiology. Its essence is in a possibility by means of electrodes, placed on the certain areas of the head, to estimate the structural and functional state of the man’s stem and cortical brain structures, as well as structural and functional state of organs and physiological systems of the body, with determination of the pathological functional system.
