The critical clinical states of alcoholism and other addictions (especially cocaine one) always were a serious problem for a practinioner in narcology. Lately this problem has become more actual. In connection with increase of mass consumption of strong drinks, growth of early alcoholism (18-30 years) we face more frequently the complicated forms of chemical addictions, both in the state of alcoholic intoxication and in development of abstinent syndrome. A remarkable feature of these states became prevalence of somatic manifestations over psychotic ones, thereby the latter have atypical nature. In this connection our medical centre opened an urgent narcology aid department with a complete set of equipment that allows to provide monitoring and if necessary - maintenance of vital functions of the body.

It is necessary to remember that successful and in time provided therapy of critical conditions in narcology not only allows to avoid severe complications with thread to life, but it effects the course of the disease as a whole, as well. Physicians - psychiatrists -experts in narcology and reanimatology who wok in the intensive care department, are ready to come for help to our patients suffering from alcoholic disease and drugs addiction, both for in-patients and out-patients. In exceptional cases (if patient’s health allows) we organize in-patient hospital at patient’s residence with individual follow-up. We render such services not only at the states threatening to life, but just when a patient is not ready yet by himself to appeal for a narcological care in connection with a psychological barrier «I am not an alcoholic», but he tolerates the state of intoxication severily.

Arrival of physicians’ team to the patient’s residence is also possible in the case of necessity to carry out the primary consultation by the narcologist and for psychological, psychotherapeutic support. If you are not ready yet to exclude alcohol (it concerns such drugs as cocaine) from your «spiritual diet», we persistently recommend you not to let painful intoxication withdrawal states come to you, when you heroically tolerate manifestation of brain edema (“heavy head”, headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting), cardiac and vascular system abnormalities (increase or falling of arterial pressure, heart rate) and consequences of intoxication for liver and kidneys. Remember, not a single physician can tell you which wineglass or dose of cocaine can be critical for you and will result in such severe disorders of functions of the body as:

• Coronal syndrome
• Paroxismal and cardiac fibrillation
• Acute ischemic attack with subsequent development of cerebral infarction
• Acute attack of quasi-ischemia with development of acute myocardial infarction
• Development of a convulsive syndrome
• Simply suppression of respiratory functions and the cardio-vascular centre
• Development of acute alcoholic or psychostimulatory psyichosis
