From the moment of Odessa occurrence on the geographical map of the world it steadily drew attention to itself by favourable location, wonderful climatic conditions, stormy growth of trade and construction. Odessa was built according to the European standard and served as a window to Europe. The fairy-tale majestic sea with the velvet blue, night southern sky, hot sun and the main thing - a spirit of temperamental and business-like Odessa inhabitants – this is what always attracted crowds of tourists here.
For more than bicentenary existence, Odessa found the richest literary, cultural history related to such names as A. Pushkin, N. Gogol, A. Mitskevich, M. Twain, Sholom-Aleykhem and many other famous persons. They depicted bright instances of the history of the city, its life, traditions, manners and customs on the pages of their works.
Odessa is somehow looks like «North Palmyra» - Saint Petersburg. South Palmira, like the city on the Neva-river, attracts attention to it owing to its unforgettable charm and architecture. Renaissance, gothic architecture, modern and neoclassic style – all that was mixed up in Odessa. Unique symbol of the city is the Potemkin Stairway. It was made famous by Eisenstein in his film. In the past time it descended to the sea and was so majestic for that time, that seemed to be oriented straight to the sky.
A stone chronicle of the city was written by the best architects of Europe. What only Primorsky Boulevard, Vorontsov’s Palace, Philharmonic Society building and many other buildings are worth of. It is impossible to visit Odessa and not to fall in love with it.
